Backhoe Diaries

The journey of the souls of the 58 people who were brutally killed last November 23, 2009 in Maguindano are still in the slope of a "turtle-like race" pertaining to the justice system of our beloved country, the Philippines. Up to now there is no clear judgment if who should be officially blame and sanction after creating a morbid history in our country, THE MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE.

I can still remember the scenarios few days after the massacre. Signboards were posted at the doors of the different offices in the university where I am enrolled updating the people if how many bodies were retrieve in the massacre. Numerous vigils asking for justice for the souls of the victims and their families were led by different organizations and groups throughout the country. Media organizations, TV networks, and radio stations here and outside the country were expressive in condemning the lawless act pressuring the previous government to execute immediate actions regarding the said incident. Streets of the key cities here in our country were filled of people rallying and social networking sites acted as tools for ordinary people to express their sympathy for the victims as well as their animosity against the alleged suspects, the Ampatuans.

On 11.23.10 we will commemorate the first year of the massacre. However, most of us still feel the anguish towards this unfortunate circumstance as if it only happened yesterday. One year of constant thirst for more concrete actions by the government. One year of drama and alibis brought by the “alleged” suspects. One year of pain and sorrow for the family of the victims who still seek for their ultimate goal ---- JUSTICE. One year of a roller coaster journey for the restless souls of the 58 victims of the MAGUINDANAO MASSACRE. When will justice ever prevail in a nation largely controlled by these political dynasties and war lords? We will never stop seeking for justice that the victims deserve. One year of suffering is enough. Justice must prevail NOW.
